Millions simultaneously tuned into YouTube earlier this week to watch the presentation of the newest Apple products. Several hundred thousand of them found “Apple Event Live”, a crypto scam that a streamer had put online.

By showing an old interview with Apple CEO Tim Cook at the same time of the iPhone 14 unveiling he was able to get huge viewing numbers and led 165,000 to a crypto scam site.

Apple & Metaverse

The iPhone 14 unveiling this week by Apple was sure to attract attention and therefore the crypto scammer had chosen a good moment indeed. Both the title and description of the scam were filled with Apple keywords which were sure to attract attention ad the time of the actual Apple event. It was called: “Apple Event Live. Ceo of Apple Tim Cook: Apple & Metaverse in 2022,” and showed a former interview that CNN had with the Apple CEO.

Fake streams leading to scam crypto websites are unfortunately getting more and more sophisticated. Earlier this year, a streamer had put an interview session between former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and current Tesla CEO (and world’s richest man) Elon Musk online to get people into another crypto scam site.

As always, YouTube didn’t respond to a request for comment.
