In the past 24 hours we noticed a $625 million hack, a breather for Bitcoin, Waves that continues to grow and crypto enters Canadian politics. Here’s a quick recap of the day.

Axie Infinity, one of the most popular NFT games, was hacked to the tune of $600 million. Well, in essence Ronin, the underlying blockchain that operates the popular NFT game was hacked. Interesting bit is that Axie’s hack happened almost a week ago, but the network chose not to report it until yesterday.

Meanwhile Waves, the Russian-Ukrainian cryptocoin, continues to rise to heights unseen. Today it added another 20% to it’s value and now trades at $56. On 22 February, two days before the war started, Waves traded at $8.

Short term correction

Bitcoin took a breather from the tremendous tempo of growth we’ve been seeing over the past few days and weeks now. It got stuck at around $47k, just as Michael Van de Poppe, known as Cryptomich, had predicted yesterday. He stated:

we’re looking at $45.7-46K for a short term correction, as a new range has been made for Bitcoin between $46K and $52K. Probably we’ll be staying in that for some time.

Conservatives versus liberals

Earlier this year, before the Ukraine-Russia war if you can remember, there was a convoy of truckers that blocked the Canadian capital Ottawa. After the government of Prime Minister Trudeau blocked donations in Canadian dollars via the gofundme platform, the cryptosphere tried to intervene and set up crypto wallets for the truckers. When Trudeau also blocked that, even Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he was acting like a dictator.

However the choice for crypto is now coming back to haunt the Canadian prime minister. Pierre Poilievre, his conservative opponent for the prime minister spot in the next Canadian elections, claimed earlier this week that:

Government is ruining the Canadian dollar, so Canadians should have the freedom to use other money, such as bitcoin.

Canada needs less financial control for politicians and bankers and more financial freedom for the people. That includes freedom to own and use crypto, tokens, smart contracts and decentralized finance.

That’s quite the endorsement. Already we wonder if crypto and Bitcoin will become an issue in the US midterm elections as well.
