Crypto expectations for 2024?

After a (probably) very good year in 2023, crypto fans are already looking forward to 2024. With a Bitcoin ETF fund and a next halving, many already think that next year will simply be a repeat of 2023. Here’s what we expect.

Halving and gold

The next Bitcoin halving will probably take place in April or May 2024. Given the high price of Bitcoin at the moment, and assuming that it remains that way during the spring of 2024, this will involve a lot of press attention.

Normally, this would emphasize Bitcoin’s finite nature, helping to convince more new investors of its now.

Analysts think that a diversification between gold and Bitcoin is a possibility, which would again flow more money into crypto.

So that sounds quite positive.

Criticism

Charlie Munger may have passed away, but there are still plenty of people who don’t think crypto is a good idea. The bull run of 2017-2018, the one of 2020-2021 and also the rise of Bitcoin in 2023 will of course make it increasingly difficult for all of them to convince young people that crypto is bad. However, I do not expect Janet Yellen (US Secretary of the Treasury) or Christine Lagarde (Head of the ECB) to suddenly look smilingly upon crypto. Criticism will remain the name of the game.

The higher crypto and Bitcoin go in 2024, the louder Boomers will shout that it’s ‘all bad’.

Asia, Europe and the US

MiCA is coming. European regulations for crypto will be launched in 2025. This is expected to accelerate crypto adoption in the EU.

In Asia, swaths of young people in South Korea and Japan in particular will continue to allow memecoins (think of Pepe, Shiba Inu, Dogecoin and Bonk) to rise and fall explosively in just a matter of hours or days. Watch out for volatility but they will be sure to grab headlines.

In the United States, you can expect crypto to play a role during the presidential elections, especially if Bitcoin (for example) sets a new All-Time High by November 2024. We wonder what Donald Trump will think of it.
