Donald Trump mug shot increases NFT collection traffic by 3,700%

When Donald Trump was arrested in Georgia last week, the event created the first-ever arrest photo (a so-called mug shot) of a US president (and Trump’s comeback on Twitter).

Another effect was a rush on the former president’s NFT collection, as many of his fans hoped to get their hands on the original digital photo of the arrest (that one is not for sale though).

TrumpTV

We all know that Donald Trump is a businessman. The story goes that Trump did not expect to win the presidential election in 2016 and actually wanted to start Trump TV, a new television station in the United States that would become a rival to Fox, right after the election.

Trump, of course, won and became president. The plans for his television station were shelved, but in the meantime there are several new TV channels in the United States that are much more conservative (and right-wing) than Fox. So he had it right.

You may not like the man, but there is no denying that he has a nose for deals and knows how to market himself. When he became the very first (former) President of the United States this week to have an arrest photo (or mug shot), Trump promptly posted it on social media himself.

It was his first time in two years that he posted to X (formerly Twitter) and the Tweet has since been seen 250 million times.

It immediately sparked a rush on his NFT collection, which recorded a spike in searches. Traffic to the website that offers digital cards of Trump’s image in various poses immediately increased by 3,700%

Higher searches for digital images of the former president also drove up the prices of the NFTs that are still available (the first batch has already sold out) this week. If he sells the whole, Trump stand to make a profit of $ 15 million in Ethereum. It was recently announced that Trump already has a crypto wallet with about half a million in Ethereum.

Lastly, if he also wins the election next year, you can be sure that those NFTs will continue to rise in value. And especially that ‘mugshot’.
