Kamala Harris hopes to ‘reset’ relationship between Democrats and crypto

Bitcoin has had a fairly quiet weekend pricewise just as crypto appears to become increasingly important for the American presidential elections. Both candidates talked about digital currencies this weekend.

Democratic candidate Kamala Harris said this weekend that she hopes for a “reset” in the relationship between her party and fans of digital currencies worldwide. Harris is of course aware that crypto is incredibly popular among the younger voters she needs to sway. In the past few years, the Democrats under president Joe Biden held a negative stance towards crypto.

While Trump talked this weekend about a ‘Bitcoin reserve’ he promised to create if elected (as well as the dismissal of Gary Gensler, head of the SEC, something for which he received much more applause), Harris took a different tack.

She claims to want a reset with the crypto community, as the business newspaper Financial Times reported this weekend.

Members of the team surrounding the current vice president have contacted the management of several American crypto companies in recent days. According to the usually well-informed newspaper, they called Coinbase (the largest American crypto platform), stablecoin company Circle and blockchain payment group Ripple Labs.

Harris realizes all too well that the younger voters will play an important factor in the November elections and that her party has not been too positive about crypto in recent years.

Meanwhile, the tech sector has also reacted.

Ron Conway, a well-known investor from California who is well aware that many from Silicon Valley have now spoken out in favor of Trump,. He therefore said:

The tech community must come together to defeat Donald Trump and save our democracy by uniting behind Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for President. I have known Kamala for decades, and she’s been a fighter, a leader, and an advocate for the tech ecosystem since the day we met. She is the best choice to defeat Donald Trump and she has my unwavering support.

The crypto and tech community probably like it that both presidential candidates are angling for their services.
