Whenever the price of Bitcoin drops by more than 10%, the number of photomontages showing known crypto enthusiasts putting on their McDonald’s gear multiplies on Twitter. Not totally unhappy with this free visibility (every type of publicity is good publicity), the American fast food company reacted this week with a certain sense of humor to the recent downtrend of Bitcoin. In return, even Elon Musk responded.

The term “meme” refers to a cultural or behavioral element that is transmitted from one individual to another. It originally comes from the word “mimesis” which means “imitation” in Greek. A social networks have grown from 4Chan to Twitter, it now designates a photo, an image or a montage taken up and reformatted by Internet users, mostly as a joke.

The fast food chain McDonald’s has found itself at the origin of a series of memes that have been circulating on Twitter for years, namely that the holders of cryptocurrencies will have to go to work at McDonald’s if the prices collapse. Feel free to type “Bitcoin McDonald’s meme” into your favorite search engine! You will not be disappointed.

Last week, the president of El Salvador joined into the meme trend.

WAGMI

Recently, the social media managers of McDonald’s showed a certain sense of humor by teasing the cryptosphere. On 24 January, they asked: how are you doing people who run crypto twitter accounts?

Binance, the world’s biggest crypto platform, replied a few minutes later, posting a crying face hidden behind a smiling mask, which in essence means I look OK, but I’m screaming inside.

McDonald’s responded WAGMI, which is shorthand for “We’re All Gonna Make It”.

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX and self-designated meme king of the internet, couldn’t stay behind and claimed he would eat a happy meal on tv if McDonalds accepts Dogecoin.

McDonalds jokingly responded they would only do so if Tesla accepts grimacecoin.

The coin, mentioned by McDonalds, is now trading as a cryptocurrency. Somehow, we’re sure this is not the last of it.
