Unless you’ve been busy reading up about WallStreetBets and Dogecoin last week, you may have noticed that the US press discovered a whole new rhythm coming out of California as of late when it comes to tech companies.

It’s called the California Tech Exodus and it’s been highlighted by the fact that none other than Tesla has decided to pack up and leave the once only state where tech companies were supposed to settle.

The high taxes and crippling laws have made several other US states much more attractive as of late, such as Texas (where Musk is going) to the east and Washington (the state, not the city) to the north. In the past three months, Oracle, Palantir and Hewlett-Packard have all decided it’s time to leave California.

Miami and Bitcoin

Another state that is looking up in terms of tech investment as of late is Florida, where the local mayor of the most gleaming crown jewel city Miami, is keen on luring Bitcoin and crypto companies to his city.

Miami’s mayor, Francis Suarez, aims to start paying part of his employees salary in Bitcoin (he’s checking with the state treasury if he actually can) and wants to bring several blockchain and crypto events to his city later this year.

In fact, the “Bitcoin 2021” event, which aims to invite Jack Dorsey, Chamath Palihapitiya, Nick Szabo and Tony Hawk, is following the tech industry’s lead and is moving from Los Angeles (2020) to Miami for this year’s event, as they’ve just announced on their website:

Miami wants to be the first city to facilitate in-person events safely again, and Bitcoin 2021 will be one of, if not the, first such event. However, the mayor and his team have asked us to remain flexible on the dates in case they determine that June will not be a feasible time to host us.
