Microsoft’s Xbox ready to integrate crypto into games

For months, Microsoft has been trying to get approval from various government agencies for its planned acquisition of gaming company Activision Blizzard, for which they had offered $69 billion.

Only the United Kingdom was still obstructive after the United States, Europe and Japan had already given their approval. To further convince London, Microsoft’s team provided a raft of internal documents to the Competition and Markets Authority, or the CMA.

Apparently there is an intern there with a little too much internet knowledge because some of those documents found their way onto a popular gaming forum.

Resetera

Earlier this week, a strategic plan from Microsoft was suddenly shown on the Resetera gaming forum that showed how much Bill Gates’ company believes in the future of crypto.

In the next decade, Microsoft would like to integrate games on the Xbox with crypto wallets, allowing gamers to make in-game purchases via Bitcoin or Ethereum instead of dollars or euros.

Head of the Xbox department, Phil Spencer, admitted that the plans were going in that direction and regrets that their strategy was leaked as a result.

“Several documents submitted in the court proceedings related to our proposed acquisition of Activision Blizzard were unintentionally disclosed. I know this is disappointing, even if many of the documents are well over a year old and our plans have evolved.”

“It is hard to see our team’s work shared in this way because so much has changed and there’s so much to be excited about right now, and in the future. We will share the real plans when we are ready.”

We think it looks very good though, especially when you realize how great the potential of the gaming world is in combination with crypto.
