Sam Altman (CEO ChatGPT) tells Joe Rogan that America is ‘waging a war’ against Bitcoin

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, the company that developed ChatGPT, did a lengthy interview with Joe Rogan, the popular but still controversial podcaster, this past week.

Of course, the development of AI (artificial intelligence) was discussed, but as Sam is also highly interested in crypto (he recently launched Worldcoin), a significant amount of time was also spent discussing digital currencies.

Sam thinks the United States government is waging a war on crypto right now because it could become a universal currency over which they have no control.

Blackrock

Bitcoin rose nicely at the beginning of the year, but has remained at a price between $25,000 and $30,000 in the following two quarters. According to analysts, this will change once either Blackrock or another Wall Street company is given permission to launch a Bitcoin ETF (Exchange Traded Fund), but for now the SEC (the American stock market watchdog) is blocking this.

The renowned Wall Street Journal estimates that this will be approved within 3 to 6 months.

However, Altman believes that this “delay” from the SEC is just part of a larger plan by the US government to ban Bitcoin and crypto.

He said: “I’m disappointed that the U.S. government has done recently, but the war on crypto, which I think is a, like, we can’t give this up, we’re going to control bitcoin and crypto makes me quite sad about the country.”

“I’m very worried about how far the surveillance state could go here,” Altman continued, referring to state control over money and adding he’s “super against” central bank digital currencies (CBDCs).

Worldcoin

Of course, Altman is not one-sided in his beliefs. He has been trying to turn Worldcoin into a success for months, something for which he has received a lot of criticism because crypto fans believe it affects their anonymity.

He admitted that Worldcoin hasn’t really been a success so far but sees Bitcoin’s story differently. To Rogan he admitted:

“I’m excited about bitcoin, too. I think this idea that we have a global currency that is outside of the control of any government is a super logical and important step on the tech tree.”

Rogan added that he sees bitcoin as having “the most likely possibility of becoming a universal viable currency.”
