Simpsons Halloween episode all about NFTs while Apefest turns into nightmare

The Simpsons have often mentioned crypto, Bitcoin and even XRP during their episodes in the past few years. For their 2023 Halloween episode (which aired in the US last Sunday) they had a whole story about NFTs and the Bored Ape Yacht Club also came along.
It’s a good thing that the NFT collection of the Bored Apes received some positive news because the party they organized in Hong Kong turned out to be a nightmare where several guests ended up in the hospital.
Simpsons and the blockchain
Last Sunday the Simpsons Halloween episode was broadcast, the classic ‘treehouse of horrors’ in which the yellow cartoon family reenacts three stories in horror versions.
One of the stories was about crypto and NFTs. Of course, this is not the first time the family has talked about Bitcoin and crypto. Even the price of XRP has been predicted before in one of the intro movies in which Barts chalks up the teacher’s board.

In last weekend’s episode, Homer’s action turns Bart into an NFT. Marge proposes to rescue him from the blockchain as an adventurer. The train on which all the NFTs live is controlled by FOMO and a gigantic statue of ‘Satoshi’ monitors everything.
The ‘Fomometer’ that fuels the train has different levels such as ‘saw a tweet about it’ al the way up to ‘uber driver says ‘go for it’
Even digital artist Beeple made an appearance.

Apefest turns into nightmare
After Joe Rogan and Elon Musk were quite negative about NFTs last week, the makers of the ‘Bored Ape Yacht Club’ (a very well-known collection of NFTs) thought that their ‘Apefest’ in Hong Kong would provide a welcome distraction.

Nothing turned out to be further from the truth because several visitors became unwell due to the large number of UV lights the Bored Apes used for their various stages. Some visitors ended up in hospital.
Several attendes reported vision and skin problems after attending ApeFest in Hong Kong. Symptoms included burning eyes, extreme pain, and even photokeratitis, a condition caused by ultraviolet radiation damage to the eyes. In any case, NFTs cannot complain about a lack of media attention in these last few days.
