Telegram’s Toncoin (+30% in week) Continues Stellar Rise
Last Updated on 15 December 2022 by CryptoTips.eu
In the past week alone, the popular Telegram cryptocoin, known as Toncoin, has seen a spectacular rise. It comes as people are critical of Twitter, as Telegram founder Pavel Durov launched budding for anonymous telephone numbers on his platform, and as former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey calls for a “free and open protocol” for social media.
We first reported on Toncoin back in October, when a two-hour WhatsApp crash sent the cryptocoin 50% higher (in a week) already. Fact is that the simple spike in searches for Telegram online caused their cryptocoin to gain momentum, simply because a lot of people were introduced to a WhatsApp alternative for the first time.

By now, Toncoin has breached even those values and was trading at $2.70 yesterday, pretty much the same level it reached in February of this year.
The coin’s rise comes as two important figures on social media are calling for a “free and open protocol” for social media.
The first one is Telegram founder Pavel Durov who earlier this month posted about creating full-fledged decentralized solutions. His Fragment platform launched bidding for anonymous phone numbers for Telegram. The numbers are sold in exchange for TON coins and have a phone code of +888. They are an NFT based on the blockchain of the same name. Their key purpose is that they can be used to register a relatively anonymous Telegram account.
I minted some Telegram phone numbers yesterday.

They’re NFTs phone numbers that can only be used to make a Telegram account more anonymously.
Price will be increasing every 3 hours by 1 $TON until it reaches 99T and then the sale stops.https://t.co/9jDSsahl38 pic.twitter.com/Q830zERiCs
The second one is former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, who in a long post explained his take on Elon Musk’s TwitterFiles.
There's a lot of conversation around the #TwitterFiles. Here's my take, and thoughts on how to fix the issues identified. I'II start with the principles I've come to believe based on everything l've learned and experienced through my past actions as a Twitter co-founder and lead:

Dorsey called for ‘a native internet protocol for social media’, and thus at the same time promoted Twitter and WhatsApp alternatives, such as Telegram.
