On 4 July, America’s Independence Day, most Americans tend to barbecue, get together with the family and especially travel all over the country to see each other. This leaves them with a lot of time in airports, cars and trains… which also means a lot of ads can be sold to a lot of traveling customers with a good data plan on their phone.

Companies therefore release lots of 4 July themed advertisements. The weirdest one this year was NFL superstar Tom Brady who used a flamethrower to melt a massive block of ice. Hidden inside the ice was a giant Bitcoin.

“A lot of people think this is how you mine Bitcoin,” Brady explains “But you don’t need a flamethrower to buy, sell, or trade Bitcoin and crypto safely.”

The Brave

It was apparently an ad for crypto platform FTX, of whom Brady is a global ambassador, and it is getting slammed on social media.

Mostly this is because US media is still recovering form the crypto.com ad that Hollywood actor Matt Damon did last year called ‘fortune favors the brave’. That specific ad has become so notorious that you can now calculate how much you would have lost if you would have invested $1,000 in Bitcoin then.

Let’s all hope that Brady’s ad fares better and marks the Bitcoin bottom (whereas Damon marked the top). Now that Bitcoin is already trading at $22k this morning, many are hoping that we are once again looking upwards. Wait and see.
