The world’s largest theater chain, AMC Theatre has added support for Shiba Inu and Dogecoin on its mobile app. Users will be able to buy tickets using Shiba Inu and Dogecoin going forward, an announcement by the company’s CEO Adam Aron said.

AMC theatre had in March added support for the two memecoins on its website. The decision to add them was taken when Aron realized how much they were in demand. Dogecoin co-founder Billy Markus has also requested that the theatre shares data on the number of people opting for the new cryptocurrency additions to encourage more people to adopt them.

SHIB and DOGE are the latest cryptocurrencies supported by AMC Theatre, and will be added to Bitcoin, Ethereum and many other cryptocurrencies already supported.

Memecoins gaining popularity

Both Dogecoin and Shiba Inu are memecoins which started as a joke. However, they are becoming more than just joke cryptocurrencies. The adoption by AMC Theatre is just one of the instances in which these have been adopted for serious use cases.

Recently, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that Dogecoin can be used to pay for some of the company’s merchandise. The community of DOGE users and investors had long expected such to happen but it took a while. It was also expected that Twitter would add Dogecoin to its tipping services if Elon Musk accepted to join Twitter’s board of directors.

For Shiba Inu, there is a massive adoption in Venezuela, a country that is ridden with inflation, making its currency worthless. As at October 2021, several businesses rendering different services such as “fast food, liquor, hardware, electronics, office supplies, services and more“ were accepting the token for payment.

How SHIB and DOGE are doing

The crypto market has been moving sideways especially for the top cryptocurrencies and SHIB and DOGE are not left out in spite of the news about AMC support. DOGE is down 2.51% in the last 24 hours while SHIB has lost 1.03% at the time of reporting this news.

Eventually, the support on AMC will hopefully lead to price increase for the two memecoins.
